'All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players'
(William Shakespeare, As You Like It)
These are some of the best two lines I've ever read in any of Shakespeare's works and I chose them as my helping friends tonight to let you guess the topic of the current post. Why are they placed among my favourite quotes? Because they always make me wonder whether humans in general are puppets on a string, controlled by circumstances, or whether they shape their own reality as it is thought. I sometimes think there must be some kind of energy that pushes us towards a certain direction, a direction we cannot see as we are just humans, but which is certainly perceived by the eyes of our inner desires and abilities. But then I know that everyone of us sees reality in different colours and through various lenses, so there is a subjective perception of life as well.

Anyway, have you ever wondered what acting really means, whether the real actors are the people who have to play on a stage or the people in general? My opinion has always been that everyday life is the most challenging play a person could ever play in. We have to deal with such a wide range of situations, we have to to be strong when we feel like giving up, we even have to prove to ourselves that there is no border between our desires and the real world. We have to be good at crafting our lives, our destiny and our happiness. Sometimes, we fake positive emotions when we are too weak to accept that there are things lacking in our lives, and this is the mask of happiness. The pursue of our dreams is an instance of playing roles, of giving patterns to our actions and to our thoughts.
Today, we have a main character, in the person of another gifted child I have the pleasure of knowing. Let me introduce Ioana, an ambitious young girl who has dedicated almost all her entire childhood to acting. She always talks about endless rehearsals and about how much she enjoys employing a great part of her free time in doing it. She believes acting is more than playing a role onstage, the actor is the person who needs to keep informed about every professional domain : 'If I have to play a lawyer, I need to study a bit of law so my character can look trustworthy and genuine. Otherwise, the spectators can easily sense my hesitation'. The stage is a mysterious and almighty place, and Ioana sees it as the place where power and liberty live together in perfect harmony. Says she: 'You know, stepping onstage is like that scene from the movies made in the 60s, with that pretty girl in a convertible car, her hair and scarf in the breeze, her smile full of liberty and happiness. That's equal to feeling invincible'. This feeling of being almighty is worth every single sacrifice, isn't it? 'It certainly is', says Ioana, 'who cares about a bad mark or not being able to go out with friends when, at the end of a show, you see the people smiling and clapping their hands with joy?'. As I am hungry for words all the time, I asked Ioana to tell me some phrases that would embody her passion for acting. She said she was not able to impress me through words and that I had to see her onstage so that I could finally undestand this passion of hers. Some things have to be felt, for sure, and that is more than any words could express. Is a good actor a good liar? Ioana says acting and lying have nothing in common: 'Acting means being able to bring to light all the sensations you cannot express in real life, not being a liar. A good actor can sometimes be a very bad liar.' Who does an actor perform for? Ioana says she has never thought about it before, but the inner satisfaction has to be doubled by the satisfaction she feels coming from the audience.
